It would not be uncommon to find a new species of birds in certain places in New Guinea because of its multitude of islands yet to be explored. In fact, scientists believe that new bird species are evolving on a regular basis from parasites or strains. At the same time, the birds also carry certain diseases that may be important to study for future use.

Life in New Guinea is traditional and unrushed. It’s a wonderful place to go where nature is allowed to flourish as seen with the vast diversity of birds in the area. They could prove to have the solution for avian flu or bird as well as avian malaria. Researchers have been traveling to New Guinea to take blood samples in order to pinpoint key data that would help them find a cure or shot that would prevent these types of diseases.

On another aspect, the birds of New Guinea have certain traits and mannerisms that make them such a joy to watch. For instance, birds of paradise found in New Guinea have been called “feathers of seduction” by the National Geographic website because of their style of mating. He shifts between doing ballerina-like movements to a strange boogie-woogie style of dancing that works wonders among the female birds. Other birds have incredible colorful appearances that look like costumes with ribbons, beards, and wiry feathers that are unlike any other bird in the world. And when they start strutting, its part of their mating call, and again it works beautifully.

There are many endangered animals and plants in the world today. In fact, it’s mad scramble to find the funds and people willing to step outside their comfort zone and help. One of the best investments humanity can make would be to teach the young children how to make caring for animals and their welfare a way of life. Thus, in the future when a child asks, “What’s an endangered animal,” it would be in reference to a time in the past when animals’ survival were threatened by pollution, loss of habitat and other elements.

One classic example of an ongoing struggle is the Snow Beer versus the Tibetan antelope. It is environmentalists against a huge corporation that has gone on an expedition to promote their beer but in the process, encroaching on the breeding and natural habitat of the endangered Tibetan antelope. The marketing hype of the company is to offer prizes of a once-in-a-lifetime expedition to the Tibetan Plateau where the antelope lives. No one knows how they got the permit to do this since this is off limits to anyone but scientists and national government officials. This October, the first trip is scheduled to the dismay of conservationists whose cries are not being heard.

The worst fear is that it could be a precedent for more companies and private individuals to start making a trek towards this land where the Tibetan antelopes are being populated. The Tibetan antelope is a prized possession because of its wool. If people were allowed to enter this protected area, the antelopes could be in danger again of poaching. From a success story of near extinction to its growing population, the story appears to heading towards a major bump or setback.
